CAMRA PUB UPDATE
The Angel is now selling Holts Mild again, with a very keen landlady.
The Legh Arms has a wider range of cask ales than hitherto, five on my last visit.
The Church Inn at Mobberley was closed for refurbishment when I passed at the end of May.
The Plough & Flail sells a real ale from Dunham Massey micro-brewery and the food has been superb on two recent visits.
The Railway at Mobberley is expecting to become a free house, following a purchase by the long-standing licensee from the ailing PubCo, Punch Taverns.
Other beneficiaries of the Punch decline are the Dun Cow at Ollerton, which became a Robinsons tenancy on 1 June (we hear rumours of Michelin trained chefs) and Bells at Lower Peover where again Robinsons have acquired the pub. This will provide interesting competition to the good home-cooking and excellent range of beers at the nearby Crown. Robinsons are a family-owned brewer in Stockport, and while both of these pubs are likely to lose their access to Cheshire-brewed Weetwood ales, the food offering may well improve.
Finally, sad to report, Holly Tree Farm Shop closed its doors recently, for personal reasons. Its renowned foods and excellent range of real ale in a bottle will be much missed.
