New fitness classes  by former Gladiator Jet are among the highlights next weekend as Knutsford Leisure Centre throws open its doors.

A qualified fitness trainer,  Diane Youdale, who played Jet in the hit 90s ITV programme Gladiators, is launching pilates and dance sessions on Saturdays.  Diane says: "I would like to welcome all ages and abilities to join me for Pilates  and help improve their postural alignment, develop a learner appearance and enjoy a fun, relaxed teaching atmosphere. If dance is your thing, how about one of the most exciting, motivational, inspirational and explosive classes in the country."

The Pilates starts at 10am, £7, followed by Dance at 11, £5.

The open day the Leisure Centre run by Macclesfield Borough Council at Westfield Drive, runs from 10-4 on Saturday 17 May, and all facilities will be available. Football teams are also welcome to book the outdoor pitches for free for the day.

Stephen Baldwin, Health and Fitness Manager, says: "People are welcome throughout the day and take part in a wide range of activities. I hope we can attract some football teams as they can bring their families. There'll be plenty here to keep all ages occupied, including a new kids' aerobic session."

Other activities available on the open day are:

• Taster fitness classes all day - Body Pump, Body Combat, Body Jam (launch), aerobics; legs, bums and tums; parent and child aerobics; kids' aerobics; salsacise demonstration; pilates; yoga. All classes are for 14+, 16+ for Body Pump. Parent and child and kids' aerobics are from 4 years
• Fitness testing - BMI calculation (height, weight), flexibility,  
• Free general swim (1.30 - 3pm), Under 8s need to be accompanied by an adult
• Trampolining - taster trampoline session, 6+
• Bouncy castle
• Face painting
• Arts and crafts
• Grove Park Badminton club - demonstration and chance to have a go
• Martial Arts  - Taster Sessions.

Stephen adds: "We are supporting East Cheshire Hospice, so there will be a tombola, we also are selling raffle tickets on their behalf, and there will also be donation boxes."
