Goodbye Est Est Est, Hello Gusto
Est Est Est in Knutsford was the last of the chain to be transformed into the new Gusto brand but is it a change for the better of just a bit of marketing. I have dined at Est Est Est regularly over the years and enjoyed the atmosphere and food on most visits so I was curious to see if the new Gusto made any improvements to a great restaurant. The first thing you notice when you enter the new restaurant is that nothing much has changed with the interior, a lick of pain and a few new pictures but essentially the same restaurant.
So this wasn't really about décor or restyling of the restaurant, in knutsford anyway, so it must be a change to my dining experience with food and service. I was shown to my seat and greeted in the usual friendly manner and looked after by the waiter all through the meal, nothing pushy or smarmy, just there when you needed them and friendly with it.
The new Menu was the major change. Est Est Est was getting a bit dull, probably to many visits in the past but there were always too many things I wouldn't eat and only a few that I really fancied. The new selection however was very refreshing. All the dishes coming out of the kitchens to the tables around me looked great, even the bread and olives we're artistically arranged. I opted for the Dorado (Sea bass) with spring onion, baby tomatoes, olives, potatoes and rosemary which was presented well and had a great combination of flavours that complemented each other perfectly. For dessert I chose the warm cinnamon figs with vanilla mascarpone cream which I can only describe as amazing.
As for my dining companion, my 3 year old daughter, she was entertained by the free kids pack, stickers, crayons, game cards etc, a vast improvement on the Est Est Est packs, although I fought with her to try the calamari and chips, the chips not being a problem, she did manage a few bits of calamari after the bribe of a balloon by the waitress and free ice-cream if she finished a whole piece.
The service at Gusto is the thing that makes it stand out from other restaurants in Knutsford, you never wait to long to be served, never have to wait to catch their eye and they give don't make you feel like an outcast if you bring your kids with you. So try the new Gusto out, even if you we're bored with the old Est Est Est, the improvements are apparent as soon as you walk through the door and even if you don't have kids, I'm sure you'll be glad they're all kept quiet colouring in while you enjoy the great food. |
