Knutsford’s Floral Walk provides extra attraction for RHS Flower Show
Visitors to the 2008 RHS Flower show at Tatton this month can travel by train, enjoy Knutsford's spectacular Floral Walk, and arrive at the show in style through Tatton's town gates.
Celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Royal Horticultural Society Show in Knutsford, running from 24-27 July, the Floral Walk will link Knutsford Station with the town gates of Tatton Park. Visitors can book a combined rail and show ticket, saving up to £4 and avoiding the queue for tickets at the gate.
From the station, the Floral Walk takes visitors through Knutsford's historic centre, filled with restaurants, exclusive shops, galleries and cafes, and festooned with floral creations. Every few yards, delightful little ginnels, cobbled alleyways and hidden courtyards lead to more shops and cafes, and to unique attractions such as Knutsford Heritage Centre, home of the town's Millennium Tapestry. Knutsford is, of course, famous as the setting and inspiration for Elizabeth Gaskell's novel, Cranford.
Alice Ferguson, Tourism Manager, says: "The Floral Walk is a gentle 10 minutes from the station to the gates of Tatton Park. Along the way look out for special offers in the shops, restaurants and cafes. At the Tatton Gate, simply hop on board the RHS free shuttle bus for a ride through Tatton's scenic parkland to the showground itself."
Knutsford station will be specially decorated for the Show, in a project which has involved groups of students from the local High School. Visitors arriving at Knutsford Station will be given a map guide to Knutsford, showing the route of the Floral Walk, and containing details of special offers available throughout the town during RHS Show Week.
Knutsford is on the Mid-Cheshire Community Railway Line which runs between Chester and Manchester, through some of Cheshire's prettiest countryside and villages. Cheshire's rural railway stations en route, such as Plumley, Mobberley and Ashley, will also be looking at their best thanks to a grant from the Cheshire Year of Gardens Community Challenge Fund which has provided grants to enhance and improve the stations on this line.
