Verdict Awaited on Green Flag Status for Parks

Community leaders and park managers will have to wait until July to find out if Bollington Recreation Ground and The Moor in Knutsford become  Green Flag parks - the sign of excellence - following a visit by judges last month.

Macclesfield Borough Council (MBC)  has invested around £100,000 at The Moor  and £150,000 in the Adlington Road facility, Bollington,  improving fencing, signage and adding some planting to the Recreation Ground. Inspectors Emma Edgley and Lorraine Cross from the Civic Trust, which awards Green Flag status, toured both facilities accompanied by MBC staff and they met the volunteers who make up the enthusiastic Friends' groups.

The Recreation Ground and The Moor, Knutsford, were both submitted for Green Flag status by Macclesfield Borough Council in 2008.

Parks and Open Space Development Officer Roy Lowndes says: "Both parks looked fantastic in the sunshine and the inspectors took a look at our improvements, talked to the Friends group, and found out more about our plans. The judging criteria is tough but,  when we receive the result, it'll be accompanied by recommendations for further improvements to make the parks even better for the community."
